A Smarter Way To Enjoy Windermere
Owning a boat on Windermere means capital outlay, mooring fees, insurance, servicing and constant upkeep.
Day charter offers flexibility, but often at high single-use cost and limited availability.
Kensington Boat Club sits between the two.
Each vessel is enjoyed by a small private group of just nine members, giving regular access without the cost and responsibility of ownership.
A refundable joining deposit.
A clear, structured monthly arrangement.
Professionally managed all year-round.
No depreciation.
No maintenance responsibility.
No time-based usage charges.
Simply group membership, and time on the water.

Limited to Nine Members
The Kensington boat group is intentionally limited to nine members.
This preserves availability.
It protects atmosphere.
It ensures the experience remains private and unhurried.
Membership is offered selectively and enrolment closes once the nine places in the group are allocated.
If you value regular time on Windermere without compromise, we invite you to enquire.

How Membership Works
A simple, structured process designed to ensure the right fit.
1: Enquiry
Submit a no-obligation enquiry to receive full membership details.
2: Discussion and Viewing
We arrange a short discussion and, where appropriate, a private viewing of the vessel to ensure the group and the boat are the right fit for both parties.
3: Membership Documentation
If suitable, membership documentation is issued for review and signature. A statutory 14-day cooling-off period applies. No payment is taken during the cooling-off period.
4: Reservation Confirmation
Following the cooling-off period, a reservation deposit secures your place in the group.
5: Onboarding
A familiarisation session is arranged before your first time on the water.
Common Membership Questions
Is this ownership?
No. Membership provides structured access to the vessel without the responsibilities, liabilities or long-term commitments associated with ownership. Members simply enjoy access as part of a small private group.
What are the ongoing costs?
Members pay a fixed annual or monthly membership fee. Fuel used during trips is charged separately at the club’s standard fuel rate. There are no time-based usage charges.
How does availability work?
With membership limited to nine, availability remains strong. A managed booking system ensures fair access while preserving flexibility for spontaneous use.
What qualifications are required?
Members are required to hold RYA Powerboat Level 2 (or equivalent). If you do not currently hold the qualification, this can be arranged prior to your first time on the water.
How many people can use the boat?
The vessel can be used by members with family, friends or guests. As with private boat ownership, the member simply acts as skipper during their booking.
Is membership transferrable?
Membership is issued individually and places are limited. If a member leaves, their place is offered to the next applicant.
