We operate like any normal boat group (syndicate).

You pay a fixed annual membership to cover the boat’s standing costs, and an hourly rate only when the engine is running. Time spent on the boat with the engine off is not charged.

The annual payment covers all costs required to make the boat ready and available for members, while the hourly rate contributes to maintenance and refurbishment reserves.

The boat is provided at a dry rate, meaning fuel isn’t included. You’ll find the tank full when you arrive, and on return you simply top up what you’ve used, depending on how fast and how long you were out.

Our hourly rates are kept low because you only pay for the costs of using the boat, nothing more.

Normally, there are 9 members per boat, although occasionally the maximum may be 10 if a member is in their notice period.

Membership for one boat can also give you the opportunity to access other boats in the Club. To do this, we just need to ensure three things:

1. A slightly increased membership fee for multi-boat access.

2. That there is a member in each additional boat who also subscribes to multi-boat membership.

3. Completion of any necessary standardisation training if the other boat(s) or location(s) differ from the one you initially joined.

This system ensures that availability remains fair to all members, as multi-access members can only use one boat at a time.

You simply set up a standing order for the annual membership renewal, which will be debited on 1st March each year.

Hourly costs are billed retrospectively at the end of each month and are payable within 14 days.

Any incidentals, such as overnight fees, will also be charged at the end of the month alongside your hourly costs.

Each of our boats is owned by its own dedicated company and operated by us, Kensington Boat Club Ltd.

We take care of all maintenance, mooring fees, insurance, and any other bills.

The great thing about our model is that we handle all unexpected costs as well, so you will never be asked for a “cash call” like you might in a typical syndicate. All of this is detailed in the contract, which sets out our obligations to you.

There are no restrictions on overnight use, and members can book the boat as needed, subject to fair availability for all members.

We use a specially designed online booking system, tailored to our group sizes and requirements, to ensure short-term fairness and long-term availability.

An overnight fee applies for any overnight use, but hourly rates are only charged when the engine(s) are running.

If you decide to proceed, you can sign up immediately, but no deposit or payment will be taken until after the 14-day cooling-off period required by law.

This gives you time to review the contract and make your decision without any pressure.

When you join, we provide a contract that sets out all details, including the cancellation procedure. We also take a deposit, which varies depending on your boat type and location.

This deposit is only taken after the 14-day statutory cooling-off period and is held to cover any outstanding fees or notice period charges.

Membership includes a six-month notice period. If you decide to leave the club, you can submit your notice at any time. You then have two options:

1: Cancel your standing order. Once the current year’s membership expires, you will have no further access to the boat. Your deposit can be used to cover any notice period charges, and you will have no further obligations.

2: Submit your notice and continue enjoying access to the boat until the end of your notice period. At the end of this period, and after settlement of any outstanding usage charges, your deposit will be returned in full. Any membership remaining beyond the six-month notice period will then be terminated.
